Finding Dory Snack Mix With M&M’s®

I love to make fun snacks. It’s even more “fun” if they’re something I can quickly throw together that tastes good and doesn’t make too much of a mess. Also, snacks with M&M’s® earn bonus points in my book! With Disney-Pixar’s “Finding Dory” in the front of my mind (since it’s about to be released) I made a batch of this “Finding Dory Snack Mix” the other day. Before we go any further though, have you watched the trailer yet?

When I was at the store the other day, a box of M&M’s®  landed in my shopping basket, which isn’t a rare occurrence, considering they’re like one of my favorite candies. finding-dory-snack-mix-dory-sprinklesThen, I came across these adorable “Finding Dory” sprinkles. How could I not do something with these? So, I bought them both! finding-dory-snack-mix-dorys-and-nemosOnce I was home, I almost immediately opened the box of M&M’s®  and starting to separate out the “Dorys” and the “Nemos”. You know all the blue and orange ones? (Do you ever do that?) I actually ended up sorting all of the candies and finally made a big heart! finding-dory-snack-mix-sorted

finding-dory-snack-mix-heartSince my mind is pretty much always snack-focused, I popped a couple bags of popcorn in the microwave and separated out any un-popped kernels.finding-dory-snack-mix-ingredientsIn my cupboard I found some pretzels and some cute yellow, green, and blue sprinkles. In my opinion, sprinkles are magical! finding-dory-snack-mix-assembledFinally, I grabbed a large bowl and started to combine the ingredients. First the popcorn and the pretzels, followed by the M&M’s®. Then the sprinkles. I saved the little “Finding Dory” candies for last so they’d land right on top! I love how cute the snack mix turned out! finding-dory-snack-mix-in-a-boxI love how the popcorn, pretzels and M&M’s® taste together. It’s the perfect combination of salty and sweet. For some reason, I always have cute little snack boxes in my stash, so I had to serve them in a coordinating box! I’m hoping they’ll help me to speak “Whale”! Yep, it’s all about “Finding Dory”!

Do you have a “go-to” snack that you make with M&M’s®? If so, share it with me!

Yogurtland’s 4th Annual “Flavor Quest” Returns Through June 1

One of our favorite places to go for a treat is Yogurtland. Have you visited a location yet? They always have so many delicious flavors, that it’s hard to decide on just a few. (luckily the cups accommodate more than 2 flavors at a time!) yogurtland-flavor-quest

On a recent after school trip to Yogurtland, we got to experience something extra special happening. Their 4th Annual “Flavor Quest” is happening now through June1!  Yogurtland’s “Flavor Quest” will take fans on a global culinary journey with nine hand crafted, custom flavors and three new toppings, in honor of nine countries around the world. A new flavor launches each week and will be available for two weeks. yogurtland-flavor-quest-fig-and-honey

The fourth annual Flavor Quest special flavors and toppings are:

  • Indonesian Chocolate Java Cake: This decadent dessert takes the cake with rich chocolate and subtle notes of coffee to create this Indonesian-inspired perfection.
  • English Toffee: Blended with real butter toffee sauce, this rich gourmet sweetness will bring out your British side.
  • Thailand Mango Coconut Tart: Taste a true tropical treat from Thailand and one of the country’s most beloved culinary combos. This flavor pairs two of the best mango varietals in the world and blended it with coconut water for a lightly tart flavor that refreshes your taste buds. yogurtland-flavor-quest-coconut-mango-tart
  • Austrian Apple Strudel with Caramel: A new take on the classic Austrian dessert, this flavor blends real caramel, apples and notes of cinnamon for a delectable treat.
  • Middle Eastern Fig & Honey Gelato: To create this sweet combination, figs, a staple from the Middle East, are paired with a touch of honey to create a rich and sophisticated gelato.
  • Mexican Horchata: With real cinnamon and almonds, this creamy treat is an authentic spoonful of the deliciously sweet and popular Mexican rice drink.
  •  Argentinian Dulce De Leche Cookie: Creamy dulce de leche is combined with shortbread cookies to create an irresistible South American flavor.
  • New Zealand Kiwi Raspberry Sorbet: This flavor-packed sorbet blends real raspberries and kiwi fruit to create a naturally sweet and crisp combination.
  • American Peanut Butter Parfait: Enjoy a taste of true Southern comfort food without the guilt. This no sugar added flavor combines rich vanilla with real peanut butter for a delicious spoonful of flavor.
  • Flavor Quest will also feature three new toppings: light French Galette cookies, rich and creamy Venetian Chocolate Truffles, and buttery Mini Shortbread Fingers.

yogurtland-flavor-quest-dulce-de-lecheSo far we’ve tried 5 of the 9 flavors. We loved each one for a different reason so please don’t ask me to choose my most favorite! If you haven’t visited Yogurtland during their “Flavor Quest”, you should do so before it ends on June 1st!

The World’s First “Would You Like That Burrito’d? Event at Farrell’s

Farrell’s Restaurant and Ice Cream Parlours is celebrating Cinco De Mayo with the world’s first (as far as we know) “Would You Like That Burrito’d?” event. From May 1 through May 15 almost anything on the Farrell’s menu can be burrito’d. farrells-burritod-burgerThe process of burrito’ing something is to take an item and wrap it in a large tortilla. The concept is pretty simple, but the results are lots of fun and, with most food items, surprisingly delicious!

When the idea first came up we all thought it was really funny, but after tasting some of our burrito’d items, they are really, really yummy! A few of my favorites were the Burrito’d BBQ Bacon Cheeseburger, Chili Cheese Fries, and Gastro sandwich. We hope our guests have as much fun with this promotion as we did when creating the different burrito’d items. – Farrell’s CEO, Michael Fleming

farrells-burritod-macncheeseEven through Farrell’s will provide guests with a handout that explains the promotion and makes recommendations of food items to burrito, they say they will burrito just about anything on their menu. farrells-burrotod-gastroSome items they recommend not burrito’ing include fried pickle appetizers, pizzas, or any soup (for obvious reasons). They do recommend burrito’ing any of their burgers or salads and many of their sandwiches and appetizers.

Farrell’s locations participating in this promotion include Brea, Buena Park, Rancho Cucamonga, Riverside, and Sacramento. For specific store address, hours, or to make an on-line reservation visit FarrellsUSA.com.

I never pass up a chance to try their new items, especially with Boudin’s Corporate Chef Alan Skversky there to talk us through each one. He is so passionate about creating recipes that are trendy and healthy and that incorporate only the freshest ingredients in them. Starting March 23, Boudin gave all of us 4 more reasons to stop by and dine! First of all, they brought back a highly requested favorite, The Lemony Couscousboudin-spring-menu-lemony-couscousThe Lemony Couscous is made with Israeli Couscous, garbanzo beans, diced cucumbers, grape tomatoes, Kalamata olives, roasted red bell pepper, feta cheese, and drizzled with creamy lemon dressing. It’s absolutely delicious and they brought it back because so many people were asking for it. boudin-spring-menu-turtle-bread

This Spring, Boudin added 3 new Limited-Time offerings to the menu and you’re going to love all three! Each of the salads is made fresh-to-order and served with some of Boudin’s freshly-baked sourdough bread. They are perfect for lunch or dinner and can be enjoyed in the restaurant or taken “to go”. Check these out:

Blackmarket Bakery Santa Ana Location To Open in Historic Downtown Area on 1/9

Exciting news for foodies! Chef Rachel Klemek will be extending the reach of her award-winning made-from-scratch baked goods when she opens a new outpost, Blackmarket Bakery on Broadway, on Saturday, January 9th, 2016 in the downtown Santa Ana’s Santora building in the Artists Village (211 N. Broadway).blackmarket-bakery-santa-anaChef Klemek’s inspired approach to baking has set her apart within the county’s culinary landscape. Staying true to its roots, the new Santa Ana neighborhood bakery will highlight pastries made from her token “blackmarket” ingredients – butter, flour, sugar, and eggs.

The Santora building, which houses the bakery’s newest 2,300-square-foot space, was built in 1928 and adds a “retro” feel with art-deco elements, reminiscent of simpler times. As the largest Blackmarket Bakery yet, the Santa Ana location remains family friendly and will inlcude the addition of new menu items, craft beers, and hard ciders. The menu will also feature a new lineup of savory “bar bite” offerings, sandwiches made with fresh-baked breads, seasonal salads and sweet and hearty brunch items (the latter of which will be coming this Spring). Just like its Costa Mesa counterpart, the Santa Ana restaurant will focus on its made-from-scratch daily retail offerings, such as Chef Rachel’s artisanal breads and now-famous “eggywiches,” as well as delectable desserts, including the Total Eclipse Mousse Cake, Cookie Monster Bread Pudding, and her famed Black Widow Tart. Guests will have the opportunity to indulge in Blackmarket signature cookies, including Walnut Mudslides, Peanut Butter Sandwich Cookies, and the Classic Two Tone.

Blackmarket Bakery Santa Ana will offer Breakfast, Lunch and Dinner daily, as well as a Happy Hour offered Monday through Friday from 4 p.m. – 7 p.m. During this time, guests can look forward to enjoying small plates to get their evening started. Coming in the spring, guests can also enjoy a relaxing brunch, offered on Saturday and Sunday from 7 a.m. to 1 p. m., featuring home-style, made-from-scratch offerings including a spin on Eggs Benedict, Oven Pancakes, and Biscuits & Gravy, inspired by Chef Rachel’s Southern upbringing. Daily breakfast and morning pastry service will feature Kean Coffee, Blackmarket will feature locally roasted Kean coffee and espresso beverages, as well as its signature cold-brew iced coffee. The Santa Ana location will begin to accommodate catering for small and large parties in the months following its opening.

Goodness to Greatness: It’s What Happens When Friends Encourage Each Other + Free Printables

goodnessknows-snack-squares-goodness-to-greatnessOne of the most challenging things for me in life is realizing the importance of making myself a priority and taking time for me. As a busy, working mom, I usually do just the opposite. There are always clothes to wash, sports practices to get my daughter to, and meetings to attend at work. It’s always something. Still, I try to sneak in a little “me time” each day, even if it’s just for 5 minutes at a time.
goodnessknows-snack-squares-4
One of my new, favorite things to enjoy in the afternoon at work are goodnessknows® snack squares. Have you tried them yet? They’re the perfect size to keep around as a snack and are available in three flavors:

  • Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate
  • Apple, Almond & Peanut, Dark Chocolate
  • Peach & Cherry, Almond, Dark Chocolate

They’re all great flavors but my favorite flavor is the Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate. Sam’s Club sells the Cranberry, Almond, Dark Chocolate in an 18 count. goodnessknows-snack-squares-2I have a girlfriend at work, who’s also a mom, that recently had to make some drastic lifestyle changes and start paying more attention to her own needs. After facing a series of scary health challenges, she reworked her daily routine and made it one that was beneficial for her total well-being, which includes being active, meal planning and prep of her weekly meals at home, and making an effort to steal some “down time” for herself each day. oh-happy-dayI’m really proud of my friend because I know that none of her big lifestyle changes have come easily. I also know she’s struggled not only with the “‘mom guilt” of making herself a priority, but also staying on the right track. I’ve tried my best to lend her support by being there to listen and praising her with positive and encouraging words. you-are-amazingLast week, I made some encouraging notes, printed them out, and set one on her desk at work each day, along with some goodnessknows® snack squares.  Doing something nice to support someone else, like a friend in need, can go a long way, even if it’s just something small.  A kind word, a sweet note, a supportive text, because when friends support each other, you can go from goodness to greatness. almost-better-than-christmas-mandms-white-peppermint-cookies

I think my most favorite time of the year is when the holidays arrive. I’ll admit, it’s a little ridiculous that signs of the holidays seem to show up earlier and earlier each year in the stores, but I’m 100% Ok with it! The Christmas season would be year-round thing if I were in charge! It’s such a wonderful time of the year to enjoy doing special things with my daughter like watching our favorite Christmas movies, working on festive crafts, and baking up some favorite holiday cookies in the kitchen!  I am so lucky to have a daughter who enjoys doing these things as much as I do! peppermint-is-my-kryptoniteI get excited to see which special variety of M&M’s® I’m going to find in the holiday candy section at Walmart each year. The other day, I literally stopped in my tracks when I saw bags of M&M’s® White Peppermint and M&M’s® Hot Chocolate chocolate candies on the shelf on the holiday candy aisle.bake-in-the-fun-productsI did a fist pump before tossing both bags into my shopping cart, along with a bag of M&M’s® Holiday Milk Chocolate candies, which I also found on that aisle. I couldn’t resist adding a Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Cake Mix and Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Vanilla Flavored Frosting to my cart either, which I found on a holiday display in the center aisle. Last, but not least, I grabbed a gallon of Great Value Milk. In our home, you can’t have cookies without milk! Now I was ready to bake up some holiday fun at home!

ready-to-bake-up-some-holiday-fun-at-homeAnything peppermint is my Kryptonite, especially these candies! I love all things peppermint and it was time to kick of the holiday baking season with a batch of (Almost) Better Than Christmas M&M’s® White Peppermint Cookies! Holiday #BakeInTheFun

So…while I was busy baking in the kitchen, my daughter decided to make some easy (yet adorable) Snowman Milk Glasses for us to use later on for our cookies & milk. She had seen a similar idea on Pinterest, using clear glass coffee mugs. So, when I was out shopping, I picked up some glass drinking glasses, perfect for her project. All you need to make your own holiday glasses are: whatever type of drinking glass you prefer (wine glasses would be cute too) and permanent markers. You may also want to keep a pack of baby wipes handy, for mistakes.

sketchingShe first sketched out a couple of snowman faces on paper. She then drew a different one on each of our glasses, deciding to make one a snowman and the other a snow woman.  nose

so-quick-and-easy-to-do

I poured some of the milk I’d purchased at Walmart into each glass, creating a complete snowman look and they were ready to use. (It’s important to note that the marker will wash off when you wash the glasses.)

Great-American-Milk-DriveDid you know that each year, food banks in our country provide for hungry children and families in need? In numbers that translates to more than 46. 5 Americans and about one in every six children who rely on Feeding America food banks each year.  One of the most requested food items is milk, but on average, food banks are only able to provide the equivalent of less than one gallon of milk per person per year. That’s because while Americans are generous with canned and dry goods, many don’t think to donate milk because it’s perishable.

This year, The Great American Milk Drive will deliver a gallon of milk to a family in need in YOUR local community for each small donation received at pourmilklove.com.  Also, with every purchase of 2 bags of M&M’s® at Walmart (9.4 oz bags or larger), up to a gallon of milk will be donated to the drive. 1. Preheat the oven to 375 degrees.

  3. In a small bowl, combine the flour, baking soda, and salt and set aside.
  4. In a large bowl, beat the butter, granulated and brown sugars, and vanilla extract until creamy. Add the eggs, one at a time, beating them in after each one is added. butter

  7. Add in the sprinkles from the Pillsbury™ Funfetti® Holiday Vanilla Flavored Frosting. (set some extra aside)add-ins

  9. Spoon generous portions of the cookie dough onto the parchment paper-covered baking sheet. (They’re supposed to be pretty giant.) I-love-baking-on-parchment-paper
  10. Bake 10 minutes.
  11. Remove from the oven and add a few more pieces of each candy plus some more sprinkles on the top of each cookie. This will help them to bake while staying visible in the cookie.
