Winter Fest Family Festival Comes To OC Fair & Event Center For the Holidays

Orange County is getting an all-new attraction this holiday season called Winter Fest! Opening December 8 and continuing through January 3, Winter Fest will be at the OC Fair & Event Center in Costa Mesa. The festival embodies the spirit of the winter season, bringing fun and merriment to sunny Southern California. The event was created to engage and delight guests of all ages. Winter Fest is an affordable holiday experience that ensures a fantastic adventure rain or shine, for seventeen days and nights during the traditional holiday school break. The fairgrounds are the perfect venue for Winter Fest, offering both indoor and outdoor space. The majority of the main attractions and entertainment are within buildings, essentially making Winter Fest ‘El Nino-proof.’

Passing through Winter Fest’s icy gates reveals a whimsical wonderland where guests can stroll through the center of the world’s largest illuminated ornament. Attendees can sample holiday treats while sipping hot cocoa or specialty craft cocktails, and enjoy activities for guests of all ages.

Entertainment includes:

roaming holiday characters
performances by singers and artists
magicians
a nightly Christmas tree lighting ceremony with snow flurries.

Guests are encouraged to arrive early for Winter Fest’s opening moment each day, and stay throughout the night to enjoy all of the festival’s attractions.

Admission and Activities

Winter Fest admission tickets start at only $10 online. (for a limited time only) Ticket prices Monday through Friday are $10 online, $15 onsite for children age 4 – 11, and $20 online, $25 onsite for adults. Ticket Prices Saturday and Sunday are $15 online, $20 onsite for children age 4 – 11, and $25 online, $30 onsite for adults. Children 3 and under are free.
Adult season passes for unlimited access for all of Winter Fest’s dates are available for $45 advance and online (limited supply); children’s season passes are available for $25 advance and online (limited supply).All tickets are a fantastic value, allowing unlimited access to tube down the 130-foot, six-lane ice slide (available for guests 42” and taller). Tickets also include one complimentary carnival ride and game in the midway, and access to themed bounce houses for young attendees.

Ice Skating and Private Cabanas
The Hangar building inside the fairgrounds will be transformed into an elegant festival space with a massive ice skating rink, where brilliant hanging snowflakes light up the ice below. Onlookers can watch skaters circle the rink while beloved holiday films play on the theater-sized projection screen in the background. Skating is available on a first come, first serve basis; $15 per person including skates. Skate assists are available for $5. Private, rink-side VIP cabanas are also available for $99 per session, creating a Winter Fest destination for holiday office parties, birthday parties, family retreats, or couples looking for a new way to celebrate date night. Each cabana holds up to 10 guests but can be expanded to accommodate parties up to 100. All cabanas offer a special menu with holiday inspired foods and craft cocktails, and a cabana server to attend to guests’ needs.

Food, Treats, and Libations
Frolicking throughout Winter Fest can stir up an appetite, which can be satiated with tasty treats and delicious libations. Guests can visit Mrs. Claus’ Bakery for sweets while watching live fudge cutting and cinnamon roll making. Merry wanderers with a heftier hunger can enjoy seasonally and internationally inspired foods, including soups in bread bowls, potpies, tamales, Chinese food, crepes, and turkey and stuffing. Traditional SoCal fun foods will also be available, including pizza, tacos, grilled cheese, and BBQ kabobs. Kettle corn and popcorn will be offered for guests on the go, and thirsty festival-goers can indulge in a tempting hot chocolate and martini bar. The OC fairgrounds’ traditional Baja Blues Restaurant will be re-imagined as a snow-covered ski lodge, where guests can enjoy food, libations, and local bands.

Operating Hours
Winter Fest casts its icy spell over the OC Fair & Event Center for seventeen days and nights December 18 – January 3. Hours of operation are 11 a.m. – 10 p.m. Sunday through Thursday, and 11 a.m. – 11 p.m. Friday and Saturday. Special hours of operation include December 24 (Christmas Eve) 11 a.m. – 5 p.m. and December 25 (Christmas Day) 2 – 11 p.m. Santa and Mrs. Claus will be present at Winter Fest every day and night through Christmas Eve, December 24.

It’s Beginning to Look a LOT Like Christmas at The Triangle in Costa Mesa

Macy’s “Believe” Holiday Campaign Benefiting Make-A-Wish

The magic of Macy’s Believe campaign returns for the eighth year to celebrate the season’s spirit of generosity and goodwill, all while benefiting Make-A-Wish. Make-A-Wish Orange County and the Inland Empire, are teaming up with Macy’s for this holiday campaign benefiting Make-A-Wish called Believe! The campaign will help benefit local kids in the area who are battling life-threatening illnesses by raising a million dollars for Make-A-Wish®.

From November 6 through December 24, “Believers” of all ages can bring their stamped letters to Santa to their local Macy’s store or send a letter by visiting macys.com/believe. For each letter received, Macy’s will donate $1 to Make-A-Wish, up to $1 million, to help grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions up to 1 million dollars. New this year, Macy’s Wish Writer™ stylus and app are a fun way kids can learn the magic of giving through interactive games and write the most magical letters to Santa. Available at approximately 600 stores across the country and macys.com, the stylus can be purchased for $14.99 and $1 from each sale will go to Make-A-Wish, which can also be used to write letters to contribute to the campaign!

The Believe campaign is a great way to get kids involved in helping local community children in need during the holiday season. Why not incorporate the Believe campaign into your own holiday traditions this year? Thanksgiving is the perfect occasion for the whole family to write letters to Santa, which can also benefit a wish kid. You could also set aside a night to take letters to Macy’s, and while there purchase a gift for a family in need. Even just hosting a cookie decorating party could result in 10 letters to Santa. The Peanuts Movie: It’s Wonderful & It’s Fantastic & My Childhood All Over Again

I’ve been excited about the Peanuts Movie since the very first signs in the movie theater lobbies appeared and the first teaser trailers aired! I took this picture with Charlie Brown so long ago. It’s been a lot of excitement and anticipation for me, just waiting for the release date to get there and now it’s here!

I grew up loving the Peanuts Gang and reading Charles Schulz’s comic strip in the newspaper every Sunday with my Grandma. It was a special time when our family would gather together to watch when the Charlie Brown specials would come on TV during holiday times. The Peanuts characters were my childhood! When I was invited to an exclusive Meet and Greet at Knott’s with the Voice Cast and Craig Schulz for the new Peanuts Movie, I was excited for the opportunity to interview this young, talented group of kids.

Because of a conflict with my daughter’s soccer schedule, she wouldn’t be able to attend the event with me but she insisted I still go without her. It was going to be a full morning chatting with Craig Schulz, Steve Martino (Director), Noah Schnapp (Charlie Brown), Francesca Capaldi (Little Red Haired Girl), Hadley Belle Miller (Lucy), Mar Mar Walker (Franklin), Mariel Sheets (Sally), and Alex Garfin (Linus).

I was very excited (and a little nervous) to meet Craig Schulz, Charles Schulz’s son and the writer of this Peanuts Movie. Once I started chatting with him, I soon realized he was just as down to earth as anyone else. I mainly asked him about growing up in his household and what it was like to have a dad who was producing an amazing comic strip for the newspaper?

Believe it or not, Craig shard with me that he and his siblings didn’t think much about it. As kids, they didn’t really realize what exactly their dad was doing. Craig told me he didn’t even think his dad was going to “work” since they’d see him there at home all the time.

I was a little worried I might not be able to connect with the kids from the voice cast. What if they saw me, an adult, and completely tuned me out? What if all they heard coming out of my mouth was, “WAH WAH WAH!”? I realized that I just might be one of the adults from the Peanuts specials! Or even the teacher! Good grief!

I wanted to make a connection with the kids during the interviews, so I turned to my first grader students for some help with the interview questions. I don’t think my first graders didn’t quite grasp the concept of what exactly a Voice Cast is. They actually thought I was going to interview Charlie Brown, Lucy, and Snoopy, as in, the cartoon characters!

My students were really interested to know about the actors as relating to their schooling. So, I asked each of the actors about reading. As an educator, I was pleasantly surprised that each one of the actors could tell me what types of books they enjoy reading or even a current title!

It was obvious that group of young people have actually have developed and maintained a love for reading, which I fear is a rarity among kids these days with technology and the internet. That’s an important message to send to our youth though. In the midst of being in the studio for hours at a time, they still make time to read.

It’s amazing to see the Peanuts characters come to life on the Big Screen! Have you seen the film yet? If you haven’t, you’re going to LOVE it! Who’s your favorite Peanuts character? It’s too hard for me to pick just one or even two! My love for “the Gang” runs deep and they all hold a special place in my heart!

Laughter Keeps You Young! Juvederm From CosmetiCare’s Medspa Helps Too Though!

It’s no secret that I love to laugh and giggle. Personally, I believe that laughter keeps you young! There’s no substitute for a good laugh, especially laughing with someone else! However, as I’ve gotten older, laugh lines on my face have gotten more visible. Aging is my least favorite thing in the world! I feel like every time I look in the mirror, there’s another new wrinkle or something new that bothers me about my face.

Up until recently, I actually had “parenthesis” on my face. Yep, parenthesis…like one on each side of my mouth! I’m NOT ok with that! Parenthesis belong on your paper and not around your mouth!

As part of CosmetiCare’s Mom Ambassador program, I scheduled an appointment at their world-class MedSpa for some Juvederm injections in my “parenthesis” area. It’s more visible on the left side of my mouth and mostly when I’m not smiling. I guess I should just keep smiling then, right?

Before moving forward with the injections, I chatted with Kat, the technician, and we talked about what to expect. Juvederm is a When you receive Juvederm injections, the area you’re targeting is almost instantly transformed, allowing you to see results right away.

Kat explained told me that she’d be injecting the lines next to my mouth and filling them in, but that they wouldn’t be completly gone, in order to maintain a somewhat natural look and also so that your face doesn’t end up looking too full.

She gave me some ice first, to kind of numb the area. Honestly, none of it hurt so when you’re looking at my expression in this picture, I’m actually just joking!

When Kat was finished injecting, the lines were almost all gone. It was a HUGE improvement and I was so happy with my results!

poqetDONUTS, the first doughnut shop in Orange County to offer custom doughnuts alongside signature gourmet creations, will have its Grand Opening on Saturday, November 14th at 9 a.m.

The first 100 guests in line that morning will have the opportunity to enjoy a complimentary doughnut from poqetDONUTS’ unique signature flavors, including Avocado, Burnt Pistachio, Blueberry, Pumpkin Spice, Tiramisu, Nutella, Green Tea, and Butter Salt. In addition, 10% of the day’s sales from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. will be donated to The Irvine Public Schools Foundation, a non-profit organization that provides financial support and enrichment programs for the students of the 33 schools in the Irvine Unified School District.

The name poqet, pronounced “pocket,” is derived from a folklore story of two best friends who met on a park bench daily to share doughnuts, which were kept in their pockets. The story of these “pocket donut” friends is placed on the wall inside the shop to provide a simple explanation of the name’s origins to guests.

Signature doughnuts will change seasonally and currently include:

Maple Bacon – The main reason we are not vegetarians.
Campfire – Let’s roast some marshmallows and party S’more!
PB & noJ – Peanut Butter makes everything Peanut Better.

Cherry Red Velvet – Life is too short to say no to Red Velvet, especially if it’s glazed with cherries!
Blueberry – You can’t buy love but, you can buy doughnuts, and that’s kind of the same thing.
Black & White – I want someone to look at me the way I look at black & white cake.

Production of doughnuts is overseen by a team with more than 30 years of doughnut-making experience. ‘Tis the season once again for Irvine Park Railroad’s annual Christmas Train. This year they’re celebrating their 20th year! Beginning Friday, November 27th through Wednesday, December 23rd you’re invited to visit with friends and family to take an enchanting night ride through historic Irvine Regional Park to meet Santa Claus. The train departs every 15 minutes from the brightly-lit train station and drops passengers off at “The North Pole“. If you’ve never been, it’s an experience you won’t want to miss.

Christmas Train tickets may only be purchased online and in advance to ride the train at a specific date and time. Once you purchase your tickets, you’ll have a specific date and time to arrive at the station, get in line, and board the train any time during the hour for which you purchase tickets. Tickets can be purchased beginning November 1st. It’s important to note that they may not be purchased in person. Visit http://www.IrvineParkRailroad.com for more details.

Visitors may take their own pictures with Santa or you may purchase a picture taken by Irvine Park Railroad. Each 5” x 7” photo will be presented with an Irvine Park Railroad border and available for pickup shortly after being taken.

At the North Pole, visitors may purchase coffee, hot chocolate, freshly-popped popcorn, hot pretzels and cookies from the Elf House Snack Bar. A full kitchen menu is also available at the train station.

After visiting with Santa, hop back aboard the train and enjoy the colorful Christmas lights and decorations, as well as the magical “Tunnel of Lights”, on the ride back to the station.

In addition to riding The Christmas Train, there are many other activities for children to enjoy in Santa’s Village, which is located next to the train station. Stop by before or after your ride aboard the train. Children’s activities will open one hour prior to when the Christmas Train runs and include:

Irvine Park Railroad’s Christmas Tree Ranch
Also beginning the day after Thanksgiving, families will be able to purchase Christmas trees at Irvine Park Railroad. Visitors will be able to choose Douglas fir, Noble fir, and Grand fir trees ranging in height from 4′ to 12′. Christmas tree stands, preservatives, tree disposal bags, wreaths, and garland will also be available for sale. The Christmas Tree Ranch is open daily at 10:00 am beginning Friday, November 27th through Wednesday, December 23rd. Families can walk the Christmas Tree Ranch to find their perfect Christmas tree. Irvine Park Railroad staff will help you load your Christmas Tree into/onto your car.

Strolling the pathways of Ghost Town, the Calico Carolers share the sounds of the season through songs and hand bell chimes. Returning this year, the PEANUTS® gang, and a cast of world class ice skaters perform in the breathtaking ice show, Merry Christmas, Snoopy! in the 2,100 seat Charles M. Schulz Theatre. In this whimsical show, Snoopy enjoys all of the best parts of the season, including trimming the Christmas tree, awaiting Santa’s arrival, and attending the Christmas Ball! The show features a delightful mash up of some of your favorite holiday songs with a cheerful and heartwarming dose of the Peanuts gang. Other live entertainment you can enjoy during Knott’s Merry Farm includes the toe tappin’, hand clappin’, comedy and bluegrass of Krazy Kirk and the Hillbillies! They continue their Knott’s Merry Farm residency this holiday season in the Birdcage Theatre on select nights. Plus, the upbeat blue grass quartet,The Ghost Town Miners, make their eagerly awaited return to the Fireman’s BBQ stage.
